SOUTH AFRICA – SOWETO ORPHANAGE PROJECT
This is your chance to make a real and impactful difference in South Africa as a volunteer. We are looking for caring, hardworking team players who are tolerant and open to different cultures and traditions. Volunteers should be flexible and open to assisting with the projects’ needs. Working as a volunteer in Soweto, helping the community and making life easier for the children will be sure to be an absolutely rewarding experience!
Highlights:
- Eligibility: Canadians aged 18+
- Registration Deadline: Apply at least eight weeks prior to your preferred start date
- Trip Duration: Two weeks + three-day orientation (and a four-day Kruger National Park safari). Extended placements for four, six, and eight weeks can be arranged
- Length of Visa: Three month tourist visa (you can stay in South Africa before/after your program ends)
- Start Dates: Fixed start dates available year-round
Volunteer Duties Include:
- • Food preparation in child feeding programs
- • Help out in the nursery with babies
- • Assistance in taking care of orphaned children, from newborns to 18-year olds
- • Assisting with children's homework
- • Personal interaction with children to help with social development
- • Basic maintenance projects at the homes which are in need of repair and upkeep
- • Help with hygiene and health education amongst the children and community
Program Includes:
- • Three-month volunteer visa
- • Three-day orientation in Johannesburg
- • Three-week volunteer placement at the Soweto Orphanage Project
- • Accommodation within the grounds of the project in cottages specifically set aside for the volunteers. Each cottage has shared bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Volunteers are provided with a limited, preloaded card each month in order to purchase food from the local grocery store
- • Four-day safari in Kruger National Park
Local Support in South Africa:
- • Airport pick-up services to the orientation centre in Johannesburg
- • A comprehensive 3-day orientation to prepare you for your placement
- • Local transportation to your project placement, as well as during the Kruger National Park safari
- • ALL MEALS are included as part of the project placement
- • Our partner will provide ongoing guidance and support services throughout the full duration of your stay
